A difficult shot ... and ... at least in the west ... a reality of death that we do our utmost to hide from. We pretend it does not exist so that we can remain anchored in our ego, desires and delusions of permanacy in this world.
"We pretend it does not exist so that we can remain anchored in our ego, desires and delusions of permanacy in this world."
Hence the reason religion proliferates so well.
I would argue that there is a fine line between "pretending it does not exist" and choosing not to dwell on it. From an evolutionary standpoint there would be no benefit in spending time with death as it would quickly become a breeding ground for bacteria and disease. "Live and let die..."
That is not to say that all death should be treated with cold-hearted indifference but rather it should be viewed as a very natural part of life. Lessons can only be learned when death happens unnaturally as in the case of cars and squirrels.
Beautiful shot but brutal like someone already commented. I think to some extent even in the east (atleast from an Indian prespective) people dont like to talk about it. They try not to "tempt" fate/death. My grandmum, for instance, never said "the flame of a lamp died out", instead she would say "it climbed a hill"!!
I like the way the background texture compliments the texture of the squirrel's fur. I don't think we should shy away from depicting the tragedy of death. Here in Texas dead animals killed by automobiles litter our highways --from small animals like squirrels to larger animals like deer. The carnage is incredible.
